Well, The first year of the Campaign Committee for Michigan Conservatives has passed by and we have made incredible progress in achieving our mission. But it is only a start. Dozens of people have attended our seminars and have learned to use computers and other sources to research people running for office to make truly educated decisions about candidates that fit the requirements that they hold.
We, as Americans, can no longer afford to go to the voting booth and vote democrat or republican simply because our parents did it or because we were raised in that party. It's too important to our country that we know more about the candidates and make an educated choice. For too long we have been the victims of false and untrue advertising, in fact, down and out lies put out in political advertisements. You cannot vote for a candidate based on paid advertisements from the opposition - not ever. And you certainly can't vote for a candidate based on the advertisement of an falsely neutral third party supposedly non-partisan group that is running multi-million dollar ads. They obviously are not your neighborhood groups. You can't even believe what unions are telling you anymore. YOU MUST RESEARCH AND LEARN FOR YOURSELF.
Our group is about that - teaching you to teach yourself. Yes, we have also become involved in supporting a few candidates and have offered people who come through our training sessions the rare opportunity to be a part of the campaign process. However, people attending sessions are under no pressure or obligation to take part in the campaigns and many choose not to.
I am very proud to say that it was the Campaign Committee for Michigan Conservatives that brought the Tea-Party Express to Monroe Township last fall. Whether you believe yourself to be a member of the Tea Party or not or are possibly just interested in learning about the Tea Party, the purpose in this was to offer you ANOTHER OPTION, ANOTHER AVENUE to go out to and listen to. This provided another learning experience for residents in our area. It was a cold but very exciting night as the buses rolled in to Monroe and the cameras started rolling on the crowd of about 1000 people. And another amazing fact about that night - not one television station covered it! The Tea Party Express has traveled nationwide and has received extensive coverage but in our county and our district - NOT ONE station covered it - Now why is that? Is it possible there is someone with the power to squash a story that should have been huge.
We are also proud to have helped to arrange a Rob Steele for Congress Rally at the University of Michigan Diag the week before the election. The fact that a Republican candidate was able to draw a crowd at UMICH was monumental. But again - the press refused to cover the story. The campus paper refused to cover the story. Congressman Dingel's event - hastily scheduled with President Clinton to take place the day before the Steele event received great publicity before, during and after.
But again, this is what the Committee is about - attempting to bring to our residents the ability to find information and details that the media and others might rather you not know.
The elections in November were not just sending a message to Washington they were shouting it out loudly. But it does not appear that many in Washington can hear. They just don't get it. They have not only angered the opposite party - they have disgusted and alienated their own party. They have continued to insult honest, hard working Americans who are exercising their rights as Americans and voicing their opinions at Tea Parties and rallies across this nation. Just who do they think they are? How dare they? It is going to be a very long struggle to turn around the economy and the honor of our elected officials and rebuild a country that has been allowed to erode to the point that ours has.
Our youth, whom our President woos and convinces that he has the way to change their future and give them hope , do not know how it was, how it should be, have not lived in America in her better days, they see it only as it is today, in the crumbling economy, knowing they will live with incredible debt forever, knowing the world will be unsettled for most of their lives, living with the fear of terrorism - becoming more and more dependant on their government and willing to live with fewer freedoms. We need to stop this now! WE NEED TO STOP THIS NOW!! We need to reach our children and our grandchildren and let them see through our eyes the true beauty and strength of our country. The only way we can make this to happen is to continue to stay involved and continue to vote in to office people who care about this country and want to end the cesspool of greed that Washington has become. We need to bring back American values to our schools. It is a sin that there are teachers in this country that do not even know the word to the Pledge of Allegience.
Our President has made one promise to our youth that he does intend to keep. We cannot allow it to happen. We cannot allow the President to fundamentally transform America
You are probably still asking yourself "What can I do", I know that I am. What more can I do. I still feel a great deal of frustration. There is so much more work to do and we cannot slow down or let up. I know that most of you feel like there is really nothing that you can do about it, nowhere to go and no one with whom you can speak. Who can you really call up and voice your concerns or opinions to?

Here is where you can make the difference for yourself and most of all for your children and grandchildren. Here is where we can start to bring our nation back to a point where our principles are reminiscent of those avowed by our founding fathers. I am speaking of our Constitution. Our committee is for the sole purpose of electing leaders who believe in the values on which our country was founded. Do you hear these words any more?
